Adapting to change in the world

I was seriously hoping that lockdown would help me find my inner self – transported to a zen like state; having the time to reflect and consider how I can live my life better in a post virus world…………..
Well, so far, not so good. I haven’t taken up yoga, mindfulness or reconnected with nature. I spend most of my working week staring at a screen talking to one dimensional faces that I know so well but without the excitement of a cuppa or sneaky slice of cake in the coffee shop culture that is the usual main stay of my working life.
That isn’t to say I haven’t learnt some new skills – I am now proficient in almost every form of video conferencing going. I can time making a cup of tea between calls a precision rivalling my previous feat of catching my train with just seconds to spare.
I suppose I’m a bit disappointed that without the stress of travel and running around, I haven’t become more laid back, happy to go with the flow. Actually, what I have realised is that I have to be in control of pretty much everything and as a result lockdown hasn’t left much a positive imprint for the future.
Or has it?.....
Well, whilst it’s true I do like to be in control, lockdown has forced me to think about a few things; managing my stress cup, being resilient, staying upbeat and above all, thinking about what will the future be like? What has really surprised me though is how my needs and thoughts have changed, almost daily about what is important. Initially it was about connections, staying in touch and making sure everyone was ok; then it became about having a plan and some clarity so I could feel like I had some control back. Latterly it’s now about taking action and having a positive vision for what comes next when lockdown is eased.
And it would appear that I am not alone……..
At Curium, we have been running a Resilience tracker across social media platforms inviting people and companies to tell us how they are feeling and what is important to them. By posing a series of questions we have been able to see what stage people are at. Like me, we have seen significant shifts and changes in those answers as the days and weeks have gone on. The good news is that is does change and it helps shine a light on the way business and people will come out of lockdown and we intend to do our bit to try and help them as much as we can. No one has all the answers, no one has all the skills but the businesses that are thinking about this will be the ones to thrive.
So post lockdown, the world and business will be different……..
Perhaps like me; more tech skills, a desperate need for a skinny latte and a vision for how business and the economy will reset for the future.
